After reading the book “Diary of a Wimpy Kid Cabin Fever,”
by Jeff Kinney I learned a very important life lesson which was taught by the
author through the main character. Jeff Kinney’s resourceful idea teaches young
readers that the people who love you will always believe in you. The author’s
message to readers is how in this case the main character’s family, was always
there for him and they supported and cared for him through difficult
milestones. The main character Greg and his 2 brothers; the younger one named
Manny and the older one named Rodrick and parents lived together. Jeff Kinney focuses
on how Greg learns to love and care even more dearly for his family for the
week his two brothers and mother are caved in from a snowstorm at home with
himself and there is nowhere else to go.
To begin with, one way readers learn that Greg’s family
cares for him is when Greg was going through an immature phase. This is when
Greg had an addiction of online gaming; in particular this one game was called “Net
Kritterz”. Greg spent days locked in his room without taking a shower playing
this game as a virtual pet owner. Days without sunlight and fresh air can be
very unhealthy; thankfully Greg’s mother comes to a rescue with an idea. “Why
don’t you and Rowley play outside?” Greg’s mother suggests that enough was
enough and it is time for Greg to stray living a healthier life. As you can
Greg’s mother is looking out for him because she sends him out for exercise. Greg
and his friend Rowley go outside but they have don’t have anything to do. After
deciding to play a daring game of running in the woods and writing you name on
a treehouse. Greg gets more exercise than he would staying home on the
computer. “Well, the problem is, it's not easy for me to think of ways to
improve myself, because I'm pretty much one of the best people I
know.” With his mom helping he could be more “improved” Greg probably didn’t
realize it but that was the most active he has been all week.
In addition, another reason that shows that your loved
ones will always care for you is when Greg has another addition that is extremely
unhealthy and fattening. Greg has been eating a lot of junk food and fast food
during the winter break. When his mother gets him to eat other foods and to
stop eating fast food Greg claims “I'm probably something like 95% chicken
nugget” he hints that id he stops eating this harmful food he will die.
Greg’s reasoning is ridiculous and it shows that he is not as responsible as he
should be. Once again, Greg’s mother steps in for the save and tells him he is
capable to stop. Since Greg is stubborn and un-physically fit Greg’s mother
send him out on a athletic task. Greg’s mother makes Greg go outside and shovel
neighbors’ driveways. I can infer that she did that to stop Greg from being lethargic.
This shows how Greg’s mom is looking out for her son because she loves him and
believes he can live a well flourished lifestyle.
In conclusion, while I was reading this book I realized
how loved ones are critical in children’s lives because they can teach you the
better ways of life. Also, they can show you how to make finer choices in life because
they’re in charge to help you. Greg enhanced his life by listening to his
mother, who taught him to care for himself. As you can see, Jeff Kinney shows a
reader how a pre-teen is advised by his family and that leads renovations to a
more appropriate lifestyle.
